MPE announces $30,000+ in 2019 college scholarships - APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 8, 2019

In 2019, MPE is offering 17 scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.

 

Scholarship Application Form:

  • To apply for MPE's  college/vocational scholarships, pick up an application at your high school counselor's office (request the digital application).

 

Scholarship Eligibility, Selection Process, Types of Scholarships:

  • ELIGIBILITY
    College and vocational scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors based upon the recommendations of the MPE Scholarship Committee. All students who primarily live within MPE’s territory and who are children of MPE members are eligible.

     
  • SELECTION PROCESS (Who selects the scholarship recipients?)
    The Scholarship Committee, which selects the winning recipients, is comprised of a representative from North Park, West Grand, and East Grand school district boundaries. This committee meets annually to select scholarship winners. Typically, winners are announced before April 1. Scholarships awards are presented to students at MPE’s annual meeting in May.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA (What is the Scholarship Committee looking for?)

  • Applications will be considered based upon work experience, academics, community involvement in MPE’s service territory, financial need, and the overall appearance and content of the application and supporting documents.
     
  • Alternate candidates will be selected, whenever possible, in the event that the primary candidate selected is not able to attend college/university in the fall of the year.
     
  • The MPE Scholarship Committee, after reviewing applications, will make recommendations for scholarship awards to the Board of Directors of Mountain Parks Electric, Inc. The Mountain Parks Electric, Inc. Board of Directors will have the final authority with respect to the award of scholarships; only after approval of the MPE Board will any announcement or communication of scholarship awards be made to anyone.

 

TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS (17 total)

               I.  Mountain Parks Electric (MPE) - (10) $2,000
                    Ten (10) $2,000 scholarships. At least one of these scholarships will be awarded in each of the three school districts. Additionally, at least one of these scholarships (of the
                    ten) will be a vocational/technical school.

    1. Rosemary Knerr Memorial Scholarships - (3) $2,500
      Three (3) $2,500 scholarships. This scholarship is in memory of MPE’s long-time employee, and community champion Rosemary Knerr. One of these $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in each of MPE’s three school districts.

       
    2. Tri-State Generation & Transmission Association – (2) $500
      Two (2) $500 scholarships – high school graduating seniors may apply.
      Mountain Parks Electric will match the $500 scholarship awarded to each of the two recipients.
       
    1. Basin Electric Power Cooperative - (1) $1,000
      One (1) $1,000 consumer dependent scholarship.
       
    1. Scholarship Selection Committee Scholarship: (1) $1,000
      One (1) $1,000 scholarship awarded by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Scholarship committee will review the applications submitted for the Mountain Parks Electric, Tri-State G & T, and Basin Electric to make a selection. There is no separate application for this award.


NOTE: Students are eligible to receive only one of the above scholarships.

 

Application Requirements

  1. A hard copy completed application
  2. A hard copy photo of the applicant (a senior picture is perfect)
  3. A high school transcript or official GED test score must accompany your application
  4. Agreement & Disclosure -Each applicant must sign and comply with the “Agreement & Disclosure” document (attached)
  5. College entrance examination scores (ACT and/or SAT) must accompany an application for scholarship to a college
  6. Applications must be received by MPE no later than Friday, February 8, 2019

 

Application Tips (Best Practices)

 

  1. Submit a completed application. Don’t leave blank fields.
  2. Make sure that you include all the APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS above.
  3. Create a cover sheet – with your photo, name, school, and contact information.
  4. Type, don’t write when completing the application. This includes the essay. Request a digital copy of the application, type in the fields and print the application.
  5. In addition to completing required fields, be sure to highlight what makes you a unique applicant.
