Q&A with Hot Sulphur Springs Town Clerk Sandy White

What is the biggest issue currently facing the town?
The budget. $90,000 of annual property tax revenue plus sales tax revenue must cover the cost of street maintenance, snow removal, the salaries of town employees and maintaining Pioneer Park, Town Park and Town Hall. In the immediate future, property tax revenue is expected to be decreased by the Tabor Amendment and Gallagher Amendment.

ANSWER KEY:

1.  Carbon tetrachloride bomb (throw-able extinguisher), ca. 1950 (manufactured in Littleton, Colo.), used in homes to toss at fires

2.  WWII vintage fog nozzle (for fire hose)

3.  SCBA gear (breathing apparatus, not underwater), ca. 1968, steel tank

4.  Soda-acid extinguisher, ca. 1960

5.  "Turtle" - one of EGFD's fire house dogs (NOTE: she's more of a classic than an antique)

Energy-saving Tip for August

Use ceiling fans more and air-conditioning (if you have it) less. Operating an average-sized ceiling fan 24x7 for an entire month costs less than $10 a month (at MPE electric rates).
