2018 Annual Meeting & Board of Director Elections: Districts 2 & 5 call for election and candidacy

2018 Annual Meeting

Mountain Parks Electric’s 68th Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Mountain Parks Electric’s main office parking garage/warehouse at 321 West Agate Avenue in Granby, Colorado. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8 AM. The business session will begin at 9:15 AM. Voter registration will close at 9:25 AM in the case of a contested director election.

 

Board of Director Elections

This is to notify all members receiving service in District 2 and District 5 that a director election is being prepared. The election will take place at the Annual Meeting on the date and time indicated above. Board of Directors serve for a four-year term and represent specific geographic areas within the Mountain Parks Electric service territory. You may contact MPE to obtain a map of director districts or refer to the MPE bylaw district descriptions below. 

 

How to Become a Candidate

To be eligible to become or remain a director, any member in good standing of the cooperative and who meets the qualifications of Bylaw Article IV, Section 3 (a) and (b) is eligible to submit a nominating petition to become a candidate for the board of directors. Nominating petitions must be signed by at least 15 qualified members in the district and submitted to the board no later than 5 PM, Thursday, February 15, 2018.

 

Petitions for District 2 and District 5 are available at Mountain Parks Electric offices in Granby and can also be mailed to candidates upon request. Any questions regarding election procedures can be directed to Mountain Parks Electric by calling 970-887-3378.

 

MPE Bylaws Article IV, Section 3 – Board Members Qualifications

(a) Each candidate for election to the board shall be a member of the cooperative and shall have his/her “main home” in the District for and in which the election is to be held (as the term “main home” is defined by the Internal Revenue Service) and who shall have furnished the Cooperative with a written statement telling why the member wishes to run for election and that the member, if elected, can and will attend all meetings of the Board, subject only to unforeseen conditions beyond the control of the member, and meets or will meet the qualifications set forth in the subparagraph (b) below..

(b) To be eligible to become or remain Director, the person shall: (i) be a member of the Cooperative; (ii) receive electric service from the Cooperative at his or her “main home;” (iii) be able to actively participate in the management of the business and affairs of the Cooperative; (iv) not be employed by, substantially financially interested in, or represent the interests of a business in competition with the Cooperative; and (v) become NRECA certified as a director through course attendance within five (5) years of the election or appointment as a Director.

 

Mail-in ballots

In the event of a contested election, mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, April 17, 2018. The deadline for mail-in ballots to be returned to Mountain Parks Electric is Friday, April 27, 2018.

 

MPE Bylaws ARTICLE IV, Section 1: Board Members’ General Powers

The business and affairs of the Cooperative shall be managed by a Board of seven (7) members (sometimes such members being called "Directors").  The Board shall exercise all the powers of the Cooperative except those powers conferred upon and reserved to the members.
