GRANBY, C.O. – At its April 9 board meeting, the Mountain Parks Electric (MPE) Board of Directors unanimously approved a contribution to the Emergency Assistance Grant Fund. The fund, created and administered by the Grand Foundation, is earmarked to provide rental, mortgage and utility assistance for COVID-19 distressed small businesses in Grand and Jackson Counties. Qualifying businesses must have a bricks and mortar location and an employee base of 50 or less.
Other contributors to the fund include the Towns of Fraser, Granby, Grand Lake, Kremmling and Winter Park and the Grand County government. The grant application is accessible at https://www.grandfoundation.com/Portals/0/Documents/small-business-emergency-grant.pdf.
“Sadly, many local businesses are struggling right now,” said Mountain Parks Electric (MPE) General Manager Mark Johnston. “Some have closed their doors. Others have reduced operating hours. Our board of directors and consumers recognize their importance in this community. So we are joining the towns that we serve and our county commissioners to provide help.”
In March, the MPE Board of Directors made a similar contribution to the Mountain Family Center in Granby. That financial assistance, which is still available, is designated for electric bill payment assistance for vulnerable populations faced with hardship in Grand and Jackson Counties – including income-qualified residents, seniors, displaced workers and at-risk populations.
