GRANBY, C.O. – In response to Executive Order D 2020-013 (RE: workforce reduction) issued on March 22 by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Mountain Parks Electric (MPE) announced that it is modifying business operations through April 10. Until then, MPE will not schedule staking and engineering meetings with new customers, and line workers will limit work to critical system maintenance and power restoration only.

“Our focus for now is simply to maintain safe and reliable electric service and to promote the safety of our employees and consumers,” said General Manager Mark Johnston.

All full- and part-time MPE employees will be on call, focused on providing continued electric service for MPE’s consumers. Customer service representatives will be answering phone calls and emails from 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

Last week, MPE also announced financial assistance for consumers faced with hardship in Grand and Jackson Counties. The assistance is earmarked to help vulnerable populations pay their electric bills during the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. Vulnerable populations include income-qualified persons, seniors, displaced workers and at-risk populations (those with underlying health conditions and/or individuals with a disability). Mountain Family Center (MFC) in Granby is administering the financial assistance. MFC encourages those in need of electric bill payment assistance to call (970) 557-3186 for more details.

Additionally, MPE has taken the following actions in response to COVID-19:

If you are an MPE consumer experiencing financial hardship:

Call (970) 887-3378, EXT 0 (non-vulnerable populations only). MPE will work with its consumers to develop payment plans. Vulnerable populations, please call Mountain Family Center at (970) 557-3186.

MPE’s customer service representatives are available by phone to assist consumers.

Call us at (970) 887-3378, EXT 0. Email customerservice@mpei.com.

Except for the Granby drive-up window (and Granby and Walden bill payment drop boxes), in-person bill payment at MPE’s Granby and Walden offices is unavailable until further notice.

The Granby drive-up window hours are 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

Electronic bill payment and IVR payment encouraged.

Until further notice, MPE has waived $2 transaction fees for electronic bill payment. MPE encourages consumers to pay their bills online at mpei.com and by using the Interactive Voice Response system (970) 887-3378, EXT 2.

Nearly all customer service functions can be self-accessed by phone or by web site.

Be cautious of scammers.

A growing number of nefarious actors use crises to scam unwitting consumers, fraudulently claiming that they will disconnect your electric service if immediate payment is not received. Don’t fall for it. If you have a question about the status of your electric account, please call Mountain Parks Electric at (970) 887-3378, EXT 3.
