Community Support

Community Support

As a corporate citizen of Grand, Jackson, Summit, Routt and Larimer Counties, MPE is committed to the communities it serves. As a consumer-owned, not-for-profit utility, MPE:

  1. Assists locals in need through Operation Round Up
  2. Provides opportunities and assistance to local schools, students and teachers and organizations
  3. Sponsors community events
  4. Supports the development of local renewable energy projects

We support the communities we serve

OPERATION ROUND UP

Operation Round Up® helps locals in need. Is is voluntarily funded by MPE's members who round up their monthly electric bill to the next dollar. These donations are collected and disbursed to locals needing food, clothing, medical assistance and other needs. Since 1999, through this program, MPE has disbursed $1.3 million to locals in need. To request an application for assistance or for more information, call (970) 887-3378, EXT 222.

LOCAL FAIRS, EVENTS & SPONSORSHIPS

MPE participates in and sponsors local 4-H county fairs, school science fairs, High-Note Thursdays in Winter Park, Touch a Truck Day, National Night Out, the 5th Quarter Program and much more! At our North Park and Middle Park County Fair booths, we feature innovative electric technologies, provide energy rebate and safety information. Though MPE's advertising budget for events we do not participate in is limited, but we do invite local organizations to request support through the Sponsorship Request Form below.

SCHOLARSHIPS & YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Each year, MPE awards 28 scholarships, totaling more than $70,000 to local high school graduates pursuing a college degree or a vo-tech degree. Scholarships are funded through MPE's unclaimed capital credits, not through the electric rate base.

MPE also provides an annual essay contest for local students (ages 16 and older). The contest winner is awarded an all-expense-paid trip to Washington DC. The runner-up wins a trip to Leadership Camp in Clark, Colo. Both trips are paid for with MPE's unclaimed capital credits.
