MPE awards 25 scholarships totaling $101,100

Trade School and Electric-Industry applications are still being accepted

The Mountain Parks Electric (MPE) Scholarship Program recently awarded scholarships to 25 applicants, including 20 in the Academic Scholarship category and five in the Trade School and Electric Industry categories, for a total of $101,100 from the unclaimed capital credits fund.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized at MPE’s 76th Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 2, at Middle Park High School (795 N. 2nd Street in Granby). The free breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9:15 a.m. For more information, visit www.MPEI.com/2026-Annual-Meeting.

With more than 60 scholarship applications to review, the volunteer MPE Scholarship Committee had a challenging task this year. At the April 9 MPE Board Meeting, the Board of Directors approved the Scholarship Committee’s recommendations.

Trade School Scholarship awards:

  • Alek Guziur of Middle Park High School – $5,000
  • Hunter Horn of Middle Park High School – $5,000
  • Christopher Mullinex of Middle Park High School – $2,500
  • Jordan Pittman, a local professional ski patroller who is getting EMT certification – $1,600 

Electric Industry award:

  • John Butler of West Grand High School who will be attending electric lineworker school – $10,000

The Academic Scholarship is the standard scholarship for college-bound students or those continuing in their post-secondary education. Among the award recipients were four non-traditional students, or those continuing in their college programs.

  • Kyle Bosshard of Middle Park High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Georgia Harvey of Middle Park High School – $5,500 scholarship
  • Vallie Mace of Middle Park High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Lucas Reade of Middle Park High School – $4,500 scholarship
  • Aylin Rios of Middle Park High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Addyson Salyards of Middle Park High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Morgan Spiewak of Middle Park High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Salvador Stokeld of Middle Park High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Aiden Pittington of North Park High School – $4,500 scholarship
  • Denisse Martinez Vazquez of North Park High School – $4,500 scholarship
  • Brooklyn Weber of North Park High School – $4,500 scholarship
  • Karly Gonzalez of West Grand High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Nitzy Munoz-Sierra of West Grand High School – $4,000 scholarship
  • Sky Paeglow of West Grand High School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Garrett Trevino of West Grand High School – $4,000 scholarship
  • Raquel Ruiz of Grand County Christian School – $3,500 scholarship
  • Callie Frietag – non-traditional/continuing student – $3,500 scholarship
  • Josie Meyring – non-traditional/continuing student – $3,500 scholarship
  • Van Mont – non-traditional/continuing student – $3,500 scholarship
  • Caleb Taylor – non-traditional/continuing student – $3,500 scholarship

Recipients plan to work toward careers in healthcare, animal/veterinary sciences, natural resources, business/entrepreneurship, communications, psychology, kinesiology, architecture/environmental design, agriculture, education, and a range of technical and trade fields including electric linework, diesel and aircraft mechanics, aviation, and emergency medical services. In their essays, students shared stories of resilience and responsibility shaped by rural life, family commitments, first generation college experiences, and a strong desire to give back to their communities.

Scholarship support helps ease the financial challenges of education while investing in future professionals who plan to live, work, and serve in rural and mountain communities, potentially within our service territory.
